The Home Stretch

Pleasantview's new "Daisy Dot" softball guarantees the end of ground rule doubles hit into the valley

It's August and while the weather continues to be either ridiculously hot or wet, the gamers of Pleasantview continue to show up and have a great time. Not only is there a feeling of sportsmanship and healthy competitiveness, there is also quite a race emerging in the standings.

While it appears that Willy Stout's Black and Goose and Firkin are going to be runaway favourites for first and second place overall, there is heated competition between the rest of the teams in Pleasantview.
Willy Stout's White are currently in third place with 10 points, but close on their heals The Cougars have 9 points and also have a game in hand. They could have jumped Willy's White in the standings last week but were beaten by who I would argue are this year's most improved team, MCM Towing. MCM may only have 7 points, but keep in mind that they have only played 8 games this year. Don't let their point total fool you, MCM has the third best win percentage in the league, usually putting on an offensive show and keeping cooler heads than in years past.

In sixth, seventh and eighth place we have Georgie Porgies, Jack Astors and Mitts and Balls. These three teams still have a lot of games to play but aren't likely to crack the top of the leader board in the remaining weeks of the season. If anything, the battle is to stay out of the basement and get a better seed entering the playoffs.

There are still a few weeks left to shuffle the standings a little bit and get geared up for the playoffs. There have been a lot of rain outs and cancellations this year and while the league administration has done well in keeping up with an updated schedule, there are still a few games to be added on at the end of the season. Please don't bombard me with requests for a complete schedule. Trust that I will updated it as soon as a complete schedule exitsts.

This weeks games are:

Tuesday, Aug. 7
6:45: Willies Black vs MCM
8:45: Jack Astors vs Cougars

Wednesday Aug. 8
6:45: Georgie Porgies vs MCM
8:45: Mitts and Balls vs Goose and Firkin

Thursday Aug. 9
6:45: Willies Black vs Cougars
8:45: Jack Astors v Mitts and Balls

  1. You mention above, that teams are getting ready for the play-offs. Is there a play-off format or schedule available yet?
    Thanks

    1. As of right now there is no schedule in place, but the Admin team is working on that, as well as scheduling all remaining rain out games.
I'll post about the playoff format once I know for sure how it will work.
